Encouragement For Today

 Encouragement For Today

‘A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.’ George Bernard Shaw, Irish dramatist & socialist

You know the thing about life? You get to look back on it. Great if you are happy with the way it is turning out, not so great if you aren’t. Everything is in the past. Each breath you take, every word I write, every step you take, every move you make. Now that sounds like a song!

So how do you look back at your life? Do you see a series of ups and downs, highs and lows, or stops and starts? Do you want the chance to do it over or are you longing for yesterday? However you look at your life, you probably see it as some sort of line. A road that started somewhere and is going somewhere else. But what if it isn’t a line at all?

What if it is a circle? What if your life is not a series of rise and falls, but a sphere, a crown or a halo? Where every experience adds meaning to the whole. Where nothing is wasted.

So then, if you fail, you are failing for a reason. Not for nothing. You were not a mistake, your life was not some random accident, you are not a failure. Your life is not meaningless.

Your mistakes are a vital part of who you are today. They are the building blocks of tomorrow. If you use them as a stick to beat yourself with, you only get hurt. If you let them control you, you become their slave. If you let them teach you, you can overcome them.

Your mistakes are both friend and foe. Life and death. Hope and despair. They are part of the circle, and the circle would not be complete without them.

So let yesterday lie, let tomorrow wait, and make the most of today.

Mistakes and all. God loves you, and all the circle of your life.

‘I am leaving you with a gift-peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.’ John 14 v27, New Living Translation
