Has God kept You Waiting?
I hate to wait for road construction.
Waiting is hard enough, but add to it uncertainty and the challenge can feel overwhelming.
It is hard to wait for a loved one to return from a trip; it is much harder to wait for a loved one to return from war. It is not just the soldier’s family that must learn to wait in the midst of fear and uncertainty, there are many others.
There is the family waiting to see if the surgery will work.
The young person waiting to hear if they got the job or not.
I have sat with families waiting for God to bring a new baby to the world and I have waited with families for death to call a loved one home to heaven. It is not always clear what we are waiting for in the hospital room.
I have waited with love ones not knowing if healing or dying was on its way.
How about you? Do you like to wait? Do you like uncertainty? Do you find your faith in God tested by what seems like unneeded delays? Are you struggling right now wondering what is taking God so long to answer your prayers?
Isaiah 40:31 says “They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength” (ESV)
To wait on the Lord is not to hesitate. We must do what we know needs done.
To wait on the Lord is to continue to trust and obey God while uncertain of what the immediate future holds. It means not panicking or running to destructive behavior for false hope and shelter.
Oswald Chambers speaking of the uncertainties that sometimes face us as Christians said, “We are uncertain of the next step, but we are certain of God….Leave everything to Him and it will be gloriously and graciously uncertain how He will come in—but you can be certain that He will come. Remain faithful to Him.” (Utmost for the Highest, April 29)
When we learn to wait on the Lord, we can know in time we will find our strength renewed.
Why should anyone have to wait on God? If He is strong and loving why does He not move quicker?
The truth is we do not always know. He is always wise in both His actions and the timing of His actions. Now we see through a glass dimly and cannot see all that God can. When we enter heaven then it will all make sense to us.
For now we must wait, but we do not wait alone. God is with us and He has given us each other.
