When your exhaustion just won’t go away, 4 ways God can help!

If you’re like most people you slept eight hours last night. Maybe even nine. Or, you might have had a hard time getting to sleep or maybe your sleep wasn’t restful. To help you get up and get going, undoubtedly, you may have had your coffee, maybe two cups.

And yet that caffeine didn’t seem to kick in good enough which probably has left you dragging yourself through another day with bones that feel heavy and a soul that just can’t seem to catch up.

Sound familiar?

This kind of exhaustion isn’t the regular “I stayed up too late” tired. This is the deep-down, bone-weary, “I don’t know how much longer I can keep going” kind of fatigue. It’s the exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix. The kind that makes you wonder if you’ll ever feel like yourself again.

If that’s where you are right now, we want you to know something important: God sees you. He knows. And He wants to help.

You weren’t designed to carry this load alone. And the beautiful thing about our Father is that He doesn’t just watch from a distance while you struggle, He steps right into the mess with you and offers real, tangible help.

Let’s talk about four ways God can meet you in your exhaustion and bring the relief your weary heart has been longing for.

[HERO] When your exhaustion just won't go away, 4 ways God can help

You weren’t designed to carry this load alone. And the beautiful thing about our Father is that He doesn’t just watch from a distance while you struggle, He steps right into the mess with you and offers real, tangible help.

Let’s talk about four ways God can meet you in your exhaustion and bring the relief your weary heart has been longing for.

1. God Invites You to Be Honest About Your Weariness

A woman sits quietly by a window in early morning light, reflecting and praying about her exhaustion and weariness.

Here’s something that might surprise you: God isn’t looking for a polished prayer. He’s not waiting for you to “get it together” before you come to Him. He actually wants you to bring your mess, your tiredness, your frustration, your “I literally cannot do this anymore” moments, straight to Him.

Think about it. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He didn’t say, “Come to me once you’ve figured it out.” He said come as you are, exhausted, overwhelmed, and running on empty.

Practical tip: Set aside even five minutes today to sit quietly with God. You don’t need fancy words. Just tell Him exactly how you’re feeling. Say it out loud if you need to: “God, I am so tired. I don’t know how to keep going. Please help me.”

That kind of raw honesty? It opens the door for His presence to flood in.

2.God can Strengthen You Through His Word

When you’re running on empty, your spirit needs fuel. And nothing refuels a weary soul like the truth of Scripture.

We know, when you’re exhausted, the last thing you want to do is add another task to your list. But here’s the thing: reading God’s Word isn’t about checking a box. It’s about receiving. It’s about letting His promises wash over you and remind you that you’re not alone, you’re not forgotten, and this season won’t last forever.

Isaiah 40:29-31 says it beautifully:

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Did you catch that? New strength. Not recycled strength. Not barely-getting-by strength. Brand new, fresh-from-heaven strength.

Practical tip: Start small. Pick one verse that speaks to your situation and read it every morning for a week. Write it on a sticky note. Set it as your phone background. Let it sink deep into your spirit.

Here are a few to get you started:

  • Psalm 23:1-3 , “The Lord is my shepherd… He restores my soul.”
  • Psalm 62:1 , “Truly my soul finds rest in God.”
  • Philippians 4:13 , “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

3. God can Provide you with community to help carry your burdens

A supportive group of friends comfort each other in a bright living room, sharing burdens and faith community.

One of the sneakiest lies exhaustion tells us is this: “You have to do this alone. No one else understands. Don’t bother anyone with your problems.”

But that’s not how God designed us to live.

Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” God created us for community, for people who can pray with us, encourage us, and sometimes just sit with us when words feel too heavy.

If you’ve been isolating yourself because you’re too tired to reach out, we get it. But isolation only makes exhaustion worse. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is send that text, make that call, or show up to that small group even when you don’t feel like it.

Practical tip: Reach out to one trusted person this week, a friend, a mentor, a pastor, or even someone in an online faith community. You don’t have to share everything. Just let someone know you’re struggling and ask them to pray for you.

You’d be amazed how much lighter things feel when you’re not carrying the weight alone.

4. God Creates Space for Rest and Renewal

Here’s a truth we often forget: rest is not laziness. Rest is obedience.

God Himself rested on the seventh day, not because He was tired, but to show us a pattern for living. If the Creator of the universe values rest, shouldn’t we?

Yet so many of us feel guilty for slowing down. We think we need to hustle harder, pray longer, do more. But sometimes what God is actually asking us to do is stop.

Taking a break, whether that’s a day off, a weekend away, or even just an hour of quiet, isn’t running away from your responsibilities. It’s creating space for God to restore what’s been depleted.

Practical tip: Schedule rest like you schedule meetings. Block off time on your calendar for things that fill your cup, a walk outside, a nap, time with loved ones, or a mini spiritual retreat at home with worship music and your Bible.

A Few Extra Tips

Here are practical tools you can use right away, here are a few bonus suggestions:

  • Move your body gently. A short walk, some stretching, or light exercise can help release tension and boost your mood.
  • Watch what you consume. Limit doom-scrolling and negative news. Fill your mind with hope-filled content instead.
  • Consider natural support. Some people find supplements like magnesium, B vitamins, or adaptogens helpful for energy and stress. (Disclaimer: We’re not medical doctors, please consult a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement.)
  • Hydrate and nourish yourself. Sometimes exhaustion is partly physical. Drink water. Eat real food. Your body and spirit are connected.

You Don’t Have to Stay Stuck Here

A person walks alone on a tranquil forest trail at sunset, symbolizing hope and new beginnings with God.

We know this season might feel never-ending. We know you’ve probably tried everything and you’re wondering if things will ever change.

But hear us when we say this: God is not done with you. He hasn’t forgotten you. And He is more than able to bring restoration to every tired, worn-out part of your life.

Your job isn’t to figure it all out. Your job is to keep showing up: even when it’s hard: and trust that He’s working behind the scenes in ways you can’t see yet.

Let’s Pray Together

If you’re feeling exhausted right now, we’d love to pray with you:

“God, we come to You today completely worn out. We’re tired: physically, emotionally, spiritually. We don’t have the strength to keep pushing through on our own, and honestly, we’re not even sure what to ask for anymore. But we trust You. We invite You into this exhaustion, into this season, into every heavy thing we’re carrying. Would You give us Your rest? Would You restore our souls and renew our strength? Help us to be honest with You, to receive Your Word, to lean on community, and to embrace the rest You offer. We believe You are able to do more than we can imagine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
